On 8thJune 2020, Maria Donato was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in recognition of her extensive contribution for over 50 years to the Italian community.
Having migrated to Australia at the age of 11, Maria has succeeded to balance work and family commitments with her extensive involvement in volunteering. Of particular note are her assistance to immigrants, volunteering for the Red Cross, contributions to Italian clubs and religious groups. For the past 28 years Maria has been involved with great dedication to Radio Italiana 531. For many years, we visitors and guests of the Radio have been welcomed and greeted by Maria’s ever so gentle and kind smile.
