My Name is Rina Auciello (Nee: Leombruno) I was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia. I have travelled a lot of the world both for pleasure and work and there is truly no where like home in Adelaide. My father immigrated to Australia from Abruzzo, Italy when he was only eighteen years old. My mother was born in Australia to Italian migrant parents from Campania, Italy. I was educated at Saint Aloysius College, the same school my mother went too. Growing up with an Italo/Australian mother was quite different to many of my friends as English was her first language and I couldn’t get away with much as she understood everything! But there were advantages as we did a lot of things that a lot of my friends never did like go Rolley Park to see the car races and the movies to see all the Disney films. We even had roast dinners and apple pie every Sunday when most Italian families ate pasta. I loved this fusion of cultures growing up as I enjoyed the best of both worlds, but my heart lies deep within the Italian Psyche.
When I left school, I chose to be a hairdresser as it satisfied both my creative and business brain, eventually running my own salon for eleven years. I went onto further study and ran my family’s business until 2009, retiring from the business world, deciding instead to concentrate on growing up my pre-teen boys. This was such a memorable and enjoyable time for me and now they have grown up I have plenty of time on my hands to pursue many interests and hobbies. One of those interest is writing and after many years of research and contemplation I have published my first novel which I am extremely proud of. It is such a personal achievement to finish a project that has been part of me for so long, it is almost like growing and rearing a child, it becomes part of you, and one is very defensive and protective of it.
I aim to continue writing narratives that resonate with authenticity, mirroring my multicultural background. My intimate connection to Australia’s immigrant history is embodied by my maternal grandfather’s pioneering journey as one of the nation’s first Italian migrants, infusing my storytelling with a unique depth and resonance, hoping to connect with readers on a personal level. My writing process is like therapy as I delve into the realms of imagination to craft interesting stories. Despite the joys of creation, I acknowledge the challenge of finding motivation and carving out dedicated time for writing amidst life’s demands.
Looking ahead, I would like to adapt my novel “Arrivederci and Hello” into a screenplay, plus explore a myriad of captivating book ideas. I am commitment to entertaining and engaging audiences through my writing fuelled by my passion for storytelling.
I currently work in the film industry as a production accountant which also combines my love of art and business. I have been lucky enough to work with some amazing production companies on projects such as The Ladies in Black, Talk to Me, Royal Hotel and The New Boy, contributing to the production’s financial compliance and success. Working with outstanding cast and crew; each day is exciting and different.
I live by the motto “what can not be cured must be endured” and each day is met with enthusiasm, taking the ups and the downs of life, making it as gratifying as life truly is.
