Strength for Life

Strength for Life is a valuable exercise program in South Australia, created to help people over the age of 50 improve their physical strength, fitness and social connection. This program is an initiative of COTA SA, the peak body for older people in South Australia. It takes place in gyms, community centres, local councils and culturally specific organisations. 

Strength for Life can have simple but life-changing results. 

COTA SA would like to reach out to people from culturally diverse backgrounds to raise awareness, assist with participation so that all South Australians they can reap the benefits of this great program.

Congratulations to Angela Scarino for the Italian Cavaliere della Repubblica Italiana Award

 

Angela Scarino is Associate Professor in Applied Linguistics in Justice and Society and Director of the Research Centre for Languages and Cultures at the University of South Australia. Her academic specialisations are languages education, particularly within a multilingual and intercultural orientation; second language assessment and second language teacher education. 

Angela has led all the major languages curriculum policy developments Australia-wide, including the current National Curriculum for Languages for Australia. She has extensive international experience in advising and co-designing policies, curriculum, and assessment programs for Languages, including in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, France, and New Zealand.

Angela has been a Chief Investigator on a range of research projects, all of which are based on praxis – working collaboratively with practitioners to change and to be informed by change in practice.  More...

Break the silence – Say No to violence
22nd August 2023 at the SA Campbelltown City Council

This was the third seminar of the year as part of a project of the Australia Donna Association to raise awareness among women of Italian origin on the physical and emotional impact of domestic and family violence; on the cost of remaining silent and how to access information and support.

The seminar opened with a presentation by Ruth Steer, who outlined the free medical and counselling services provided by Cedar Health Service that addresses the health impact of domestic and family violence.

Ada Scalzi, former Brevet Sargent at SAPOL, addressed the physical and emotional experiences faced by women victims of violence who decide to continue to stay in their homes as well as the legal and financial challenges encountered by women who decide to leave. More...
